Changes to Regional Recycling Services The regional recycling centers operated by the Commission will close August 1st, 2023. Unsupervised recycling sites often result in contaminated loads that cannot be economically processed. Combined with collection costs and weak market conditions, much of the material is being landfilled in either the Didsbury landfill, or at another landfill.
What services will change? For town residents, the blue-cart collection programs will continue. The Commission is not involved in these programs, and where available, these services will continue to operate.
What services will remain the same? The Commission will continue to operate the household hazardous waste program.
The following products will continue to be collected and processed at no charge to regional customers:
- Used automotive oil, filters, and containers
- Waste fuels and diesel
- Antifreeze and glycols
- Propane tanks
- Microwaves
- Batteries, fluorescent light bulbs
- Paint cans and aerosol paint cans
- Household hazardous waste
- Tires
- Household electronic devices
